Gyeongju in One Day From Seoul: A Realistic KTX Timeline

Gyeongju is a genuine one-day trip from Seoul if you build your schedule around the actual transfer times instead of guessing. Here’s a timeline that works.

Getting there

KTX service between Seoul Station and Gyeongju Station runs frequently through the day — roughly every 30-40 minutes — with a one-way trip taking a little over two hours. Book ahead for weekend travel; popular departures sell out.

The bus that actually matters

From Gyeongju Station, Bus 50 runs every 15-20 minutes directly toward the Hwangridan-gil area and is the practical default. Bus 700 exists but only runs a handful of scheduled departures a day — don’t build your itinerary around waiting for it.

A sample day

• Morning departure from Seoul Station, arriving in Gyeongju by mid-morning.
• Bus 50 to Hwangridan-gil — roughly a 20-25 minute ride.
• Daereungwon and the historic tomb complex — the park grounds are free to walk; the interior tomb exhibit (Cheonmachong) has a separate entrance fee.
• Cheomseongdae and Gyochon Village — a flat, walkable loop; bike rentals are available near Daereungwon if you’d rather cover ground faster.
• Gyeongju National Museum in the afternoon — free entry to the permanent Silla collection.
• Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond in the evening — the night illumination is worth timing your visit around sunset.
• Return to Gyeongju Station by taxi or bus, with a KTX back to Seoul that gets you home the same night.

The one thing to build in slack for

Whatever your exact schedule, leave more buffer than feels necessary between your last Gyeongju activity and your return train — a delayed bus or a longer-than-expected walk back from Donggung Palace is the easiest way to miss a departure you can’t easily rebook same-day.
