AREX Express vs All-Stop: Which Train, and How to Transfer to KTX
The real difference between AREX Express and All-Stop trains from Incheon Airport, and what the transfer to KTX at Seoul Station actually involves.

If you’re heading straight from Incheon Airport onto a KTX train, the first decision is which AREX service to take — and the second is not underestimating the transfer time once you land at Seoul Station.
Express vs All-Stop: the actual tradeoff
Both trains run the identical Incheon Airport–Seoul Station route on the same track. The difference is simple:
- Express skips the intermediate stations and gets you there meaningfully faster, at a higher fare, typically bought as a ticket for a specific departure.
- All-Stop calls at every station along the line, costs less, and works like a normal transit ride — tap in with whatever transit card you’re carrying and take the next train.
If your connection at Seoul Station is tight, the time you save on Express is worth more than the fare difference. If you have room to spare, All-Stop is the cheaper default and doesn’t require planning around a specific departure time.
The transfer to KTX
The AREX platform and the KTX concourse at Seoul Station are connected internally — you’re not walking outside and re-entering through street level. That said, it’s still a real walk with luggage, involving stairs or elevators between levels, so don’t treat it as a same-platform connection. Build in a buffer rather than cutting it to the scheduled minimum, especially with checked bags or if you’re travelling with kids.
